BOARD AT NGV

If you're board at home this weekend then head in to the NGV in Melbourne and check out BOARD, a skateboarding culture and artwork exhibition drawn directly from the collection of former Kiwi pro skater Tony Hallam. The exhibition has a specific focus on the 1978 - 1983 period of intense creativity where the Dogtown slackers took skating into the pool, onto the ramp and in skate parks that hadn’t been previously imagined.

The exhibition is currently running at the NGV and finishes this Sunday, 5th Feb. For info click here.

MORNING OF THE EARTH

In 1972 Albie Falzon released 'Morning of the Earth' which is sometimes described as the greatest surf movie of all time, others think its a hippy movie. One things certain, it's definitely not for everyone. The film portrays surfers living in spiritual harmony with nature, making their own boards (and homes) as they travel in search for the perfect wave across Australia’s north-east coast, Bali and Hawaii. G. Wayne Thomas prodcued the soundtrack for the movie which became the first Australian Gold soundtrack album. The movie is screening at the Regent Theatre tonight and at the Dromana Drive-In tomorrow night, Saturday Jan 21. This is not just a usual screening however, there will be live performances of the soundtrack by some of the original artists.

MADSTEEZ X MAR X DENNIS HOPPER

Dennis Hopper was an actor, filmmaker and artist who lived in Venice Beach. He was a well loved resident and was a staple in the Venice Beach community. Graffiti artists Madsteez and MAR collaborated on this mural piece just recently as a tribute to Dennis after he passed away in 2010. An amazing result.

Ryan has done work for Quiksilver, Rip Curl, Roxy, RVCA & Rhythm just to name a few.

OZMOSIS TEAM RIDER SKEETA DERHAM ON THE SEARCH IN BRAZIL

Last year Ozmosis team rider Peter 'Skeeta' Derham was searching for uncrowded lineups and something new with a sense of adventure, so he decided to tackle Brazil's famous tidal bore, Pororoca. Pororoca is a river bore wave deep in the Amazon that runs for kilometres and is infested with crocodiles, anacondas and pirhanas.

His efforts on this epic surf trip earned him a seven page spread in Novemeber Tracks Magazine last year. We're looking forward to seeing where Skeeta's adventures take him next.
